Taking vehicle abroad

You can take your vehicle abroad for up to 28 days at a time.

If you want to take your vehicle abroad for longer, you will need permission from us first.

You must make sure you have insurance on the vehicle, and it must be fully comprehensive cover. The policy should cover the full cost of the vehicle.

If you have a motorbike, you can choose third party, fire and theft cover. But you’ll pay for any damage costs to your vehicle yourself. The fire and theft element will need to cover the full cost of the motorcycle if it’s stolen or involved in a fire.

The GOV.UK website has useful information on vehicle insurance whilst travelling abroad
